You ask any professional working and he is likely to swear by his laptop and Internet connection. We cannot imagine being able to work without getting connected to outside world and without our laptops and internet.

Let us take the case of our homes. It is quite interesting to know the history of cameras. A few decades back the cameras were huge big boxes lined with black clothes. With advancement of technology the cameras slowly began to get smaller in size and more sophisticated with lenses and other accessories. The old type of cameras until the age of digital cameras used photographic films as the medium of recording where as the electronic or digital cameras use camera sensors in place of photographic films. The photographic film roll is developed in the back room of the studio where it is exposed and prints developed. With digital camera shoots; there is no need for post production. The images captured are stored on a memory chip, which can be downloaded on to the computer for viewing, rework or printing. While the still cameras could capture only non moving picture frames, digital cameras can shoot and capture videos or small moving pictures too.

Today we no longer develop prints and make albums out of them. Instead of opening albums to watch old pictures, we switch on our laptops and look through the slides.

In a normal household we get to see very ordinary digital cameras or handy cams. You will also find mobiles with cameras available now. Professional use cameras are different and are highly specialized cameras. The types of cameras available include game cameras, toy cameras, movie and video cameras, pin hole cameras besides range finder, pocket cameras and other special cameras with single, double lens etc.

We generally use cameras to take pictures of our family, friends, our holidays, when we go site seeing etc to take home nice memories, but cameras are used in many other fields including scientific, medical, educational as well as security related fields. Cameras are one of the important security related equipments used in the field.

As the technology is advancing, the size of the camera is getting smaller, the features and technology more sophisticated but simpler for normal people to use. Taking a picture requires you to just aim, click and shoot.
